First Drive: 2009 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S
2009 Maserati Quattrporte Sport GT S - First Drive - Latest News, Features, and Reviews - Automobile Magazine
We dare anyone who is thinking about an Audi S8 or a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG to give the 2009 Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S a chance. You'll be hooked, just like we are.

Maserati is on a roll. 2008 was the company's best year ever, with a rather impressive 8586 sales worldwide. North America sucked up 2666 of those deliveries, a 1.1% increase compared to 2007. That's pretty extraordinary considering the economic collapse that came about during latter part of 2008. The Quattroporte sedan made up 3383 of the total 2008 worldwide sales, bumping the total number of fifth-generation four-doors sold over the 15,000 mark. To fully appreciate that last number, you have to remember that Maserati only sold 53 of the third-generation 1987-1990 Quattroporte and 825 of the 1998-2002 fourth-generation model.

First Test: 2011 Audi R8 V10
2011 Audi R8 V10 - First 0-60 mph Test - Automobile Magazine
We've already driven the 2011 Audi R8 V10, but we did not get a chance to test the car until now. Don Sherman spent the day with an R8 and his testing equipment and recorded a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds.

What's the difference in the V-10 engines that power the top Audi and Lamborghini's crown prince? As it turns out, not much. Both share the same basic components and architecture: a 90-degree V-angle, DOHC 4-valves per cylinder top end, mostly aluminum construction. The forged-steel crankshaft and connecting rods and forged aluminum pistons providing a 12.5:1 compression ratio are also shared by both sports cars.

It won't be very green this year at the Audi stand. Sure, the Q7 TDI will be there as well as the compact Q5, but the big news is the Canadian intro of two high-performance models. Based on the new-generation A4, the 2010 S4 drops the 340-hp V8 for a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 that develops 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Gearbox choices will include a 6-speed manual and a new 7-speed dual-clutch S tronic automatic. Full story...
