Automatic Stop/Start

In energy-conscious times, shutting off your fuel-sucking engine when its services are not required seems as obvious as turning off the lights when leaving a room. Soon, North American cars will handle the shutdown - and restart - automatically, in traffic or at a stoplight, without the driver even noticing.

The G8 really does resonate as a half price BMW 5-series. The 361-hp V-8 provides strong low-end acceleration. It rides beautifully. Steering and stability are very good and on center.

Car Sharing

Somewhere between renting a car and borrowing a car, car sharing promises the benefits of car ownership with fewer hassles and expenses. With car sharing, you can reserve a car online, pick it up locally, access it by waving a smart card across the windshield, and pay by the hour (rather than by the day or the week).

Pay Per Mile

Auto insurance is a necessary evil. You certainly don't want to buy any more than you need. It stands to reason that drivers who spend more time out on the road face a greater chance of mishap than those who log fewer miles. Yet - all other factors being the same - a driver who clocks fewer than 5000 miles a year will pay essentially the same premium as one who drives 50,000 miles a year. A solution is coming from pay-as-you-drive insurance, which, in its simplest form, calculates premiums based on miles driven.
