WRC: Jari-Matti Latvala soon to be back behind the wheel

Following confirmation that replacement driver Dani Sordo would not remain with Ford's M-Sport team for the rest of the season, it appeared Jari-Matti Latvala made a further step towards his comeback.

The Finn, who broke his collarbone on April 11, is scheduled to join his teammate Petter Solberg and the rest of his team for a test in Sardinia, behind the wheel of the Fiesta RS WRC car, as they prepare for round six of the WRC, the Acropolis Rally.

Latvala told Autosport that he was "90% recovered" and "confident [that he would drive] in Greece."

His boss Malcolm Wilson added that his seat had been fitted with padding, to nurse to sensitive bone, and that 27-year-old had not felt any pain since two days after the accident.

ALMS: Franck Montagny joins Level 5 Motorsports

Former Formula One man, Franck Montagny is moving on from the withdrawal of Peugeot from sports car racing. He has found a new home at Level 5 Motorsports.

"I haven't met Scott yet but I've heard a lot about the team because of all their successes over the years so I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and working with the guys," Montagny said.

The 34-year-old Frenchman was added to the team's driver line-up for the upcoming six-hour race presented at Laguna Seca, round 3 of the American Le Mans Series. He will pilot the team's LMP2 Andretti-Green Racing Acura ARX-01B.

"I have good memories of racing at Laguna Seca but I prefer to always look forward instead of at the past.  The track is maybe not Monaco but it's a great place in the USA, and a good place to shine!" Montagny added.

His new boss, Scott Tucker, was equally excited at the prospect of the race.

"Franck comes with a great pedigree," he said.

"I don't believe it will take any time at all for him to adjust to the P2 HPD and to our Dunlop tires. We know we have a very competitive package and we're confident that our driver line-up can't be bettered, but we know the race will be tough, as always."

Championship leaders in the P2 category, Level 5 Motorsports will be trying to make it three of three as far as victory goes this season at Laguna Seca.

2012 Audi S4
2012 Audi S4 - Editors' Notebook - Automobile Magazine
Disappointing? Audi S4? Blasphemy!

I come from an Audi family, and spent the better part of a year driving a previous-generation 2007 S4 sedan with a six-speed manual. My mother also looked at the current S4 before ultimately buying a 2012 A4 2.0T, so I was elated when I was handed the keys to a six-speed S4 for the weekend. Unfortunately, the elation quickly faded after slipping behind the wheel. It was the same steering wheel from our old S4, but the car was nearly unrecognizable as an S4. Yes, it is still deceptively quick and can be a luxurious tourer when asked to be. But the new 3.0T supercharged engine (yes, it's supercharged not turbocharged, ignore what you think that "T" means) is too quiet and doesn't give the same kind of aural thrill that the old 4.2-liter V-8 gave even on normal acceleration. I've heard the 3.0T make good noises, but it was under full throttle in an S5 Cabriolet with the top down and equipped with the quick-shifting DSG gearbox. The S4 has lost its heart -- not just in the literal sense of Audi replacing the 4.2 with the 3.0T, but also in the sense that it is now just a cool and mechanical machine.

The Ultimate Sitting Machine?

The BMW 328i has spent three months with us, and by this point we've already driven it across the country, sent it to a racetrack, and made a fair number of trips to the grocery store. In other words, we've already spent hours behind the steering wheel, in the leather seats, pressing buttons and shifting gears. After driving just over 10,000 miles, our editors have contributed their fair share of comments on the BMW's interior.
