General Motors plans to idle the Michigan plant that produces the Cadillac ATS and CTS for three weeks amid a glut of inventory. The move comes as U.S. sales of the ATS and CTS sag, pushing inventories to unusually high levels.
General Motors issued five recalls covering about 269,000 U.S. vehicles, from 2013 Cadillac ATS sedans for a seat belt glitch to older-model Saturn Vue crossovers for a problem with the key coming out when the ignition is not turned off.
More than half of the 113 applications submitted in the first week of General Motors' compensation program for victims of its faulty ignition switch were death claims.
Australian new vehicle volume was strong in July 2014, the FCAI trade association said, as sales of 89,867 new passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles dipped 0.4% versus the July record set in 2013.
BMW Group vehicle sales set a July record with global volume up 7.6% year on year to 163,959 vehicles. Year-to-date volume was up 7% to a record 1,184,170.
