Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel put a damper on Lewis Hamilton's title chances as the German powered to a dominant display of his pace during a dry Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

Many thought Hamilton could replicate his performance from Hungary, where he won from pole, but Vettel decided otherwise as he breezed passed the Brit before the end of the first lap.

Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), who qualified a distant ninth on Saturday, stormed through to fifth during the first lap and eventually on to finish second ahead of Hamilton. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) and Mark Webber (Red Bull) completed the top five.

Jenson Button (McLaren) rallied to six, almost pulling off a one-stop strategy. His performance made for one of McLaren's best race of the season. His teammate Sergio Perez dropped to 11th after a penalty following a tangle with Romain Grosjean (Lotus).

Grosjean finished eighth behind Felipe Massa (Ferrari). Adrian Sutil saved Force India's day with a ninth place finish. The German's performance will still make Paul di Resta's race-ending crash with Pastor Maldonado (Williams) difficult to forget.

Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso) fought back from the far ends of the grid to 10th.

Kimi Raikkonen's (Lotus) run of 27 point finishes came to an end as brake issues forced him to retire from an average race.
