Car designers and engineers never cease to amaze us. The folks at McLaren have developed an ultrasonic transducer that could eventually replace windshield wipers.
Their device converts electricity into 30kHz sound waves which are directly sent to the windshield, effectively preventing most particles and debris from sticking to the surface, whether it's snow, rain, dirt, or even insects.
McLaren claims this system considerably improves visibility -- since you aren't scraping rubber across the glass repeatedly -- and even provides a slight fuel saving.
