Following the five recalls announced yesterday, General Motors is now recalling 8,200 Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu sedans from the 2014 model year in the U.S. because rear disc brakes have been mistakenly installed on the front wheels.
The number of affected units in Canada remains unknown.
Dealers were instructed on May 1st to stop selling the LaCrosse and Malibu. Since the rear discs are thinner, the brake pads will wear faster and could lose contact with the brake callipers, likely resulting in longer stopping distances.
Both the discs and pads will be replaced at no cost by Buick dealers. The company will send a mail notice to affected owners starting May 29th.
