Later this week, Kia will unveil its all-new, diesel-powered Optima T-Hybrid at the Paris Auto Show.
Equipped with the 1.7L CRDi turbodiesel engine that's currently used by the Optima in other markets, the Optima T-Hybrid also features an electric motor and 48V lead-carbon battery. It can drive at low speeds and cruise at higher speeds in full electric mode. Like most hybrids, this one adds a regenerative braking system.
Kia is on the short list of automakers who have experimented with diesel-electric powertrains. Others include Volvo, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, and Mercedes-Benz.
