After getting a taste of racing in Townsville, Canadian race car driver Jacques Villeneuve will compete for the Pepsi Maxi Crew at the Coates Hire Ipswich 300 and Sydney Motorsport Park 360.

The 41-year-old Canadian and 1997 Formula One champion drove the No. 51 Kelly Racing Holden at Townsville, suffering an engine failure in race one and finishing 24th in the second race.

The former Indy 500 winner returns after competing at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 in the absence of Greg Murphy who continues to recover from major back surgery.

“Jacques is an absolute professional and will add a lot of value to the team, especially as he secures further seat time over the next couple of rounds,” says Kelly Racing Director and driver Todd Kelly.

“Jumping in the car at Townsville without testing or for that matter even sitting in the car is a daunting task, but he took it all in his stride and was pleased with his efforts and have absolutely no doubt he will quickly move through the field in future events.”
