During Thursday's hearing at the FIA International Tribunal, Mercedes AMG Formula 1 apologised for having asked its two race drivers to wear anonymous, unmarked black helmets instead of the regular ones during the famous Barcelona tire test.
The Tribunal was today hearing members and lawyers of FIA, Mercedes AMG and Pirelli.
The German team has admitted that it regrets how the private Pirelli tire test was made to look more secret that it was - especially through its drivers wearing unmarked helmets.
Mercedes lawyer Paul Harris explained that Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg wore plain black helmets to avoid security issues with fans.
"We had our reasons - it was about the lack of bodyguard and security personnel. We do acknowledge that this part of the test aroused suspicions and it is regrettable”, said Harris.
"We regret now the decision of our drivers to wear black helmets... we regret it and we apologise".
