Although it's not much of a surprise that Austin Dillon, Richard Childress' grandson, is moving up to Sprint Cup next year; how it was announced is a surprise.
Ordinarily the upcoming team and/or sponsor makes the announcement. In this case, AdvoCare, his current Nationwide Series sponsor which, apparently, won't be going with him made the announcement inside another one.
There has been no official announcement from Richard Childress Racing.
AdvoCare, a supplier of general nutrition, weight loss, energy and sports performance products, announced that it would sponsor Roush Fenway Racing's Trevor Bayne next year in the Nationwide Series.
With younger brother, Ty Dillon, moving to the Nationwide Series in the No. 3 Chevy with Yeungling Beer sponsorship; AdvoCare apparently, did not want to move up with the 23-year old Austin Dillon.
The press release said: “AdvoCare served as the sponsor on the No. 3 car of Austin Dillon the past two seasons. With Dillon making the move to full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing in 2014, the organization began the process of diligently seeking out its best option moving forward.
“AdvoCare values Austin and his team and are so grateful for the relationship we've built over the past few years,” said AdvoCare President and CEO Richard Wright.
“We are proud of the success we've had together and are looking forward to Austin and the No. 3 team running for the 2013 NNS Championship.”
Dillon is currently fourth in the Nationwide standings and has run eight Sprint Cup races in three different team's car. He's slated to fill in for the recovering Tony Stewart at Talladega next week.
