Team E-Volve, representing the University of Sherbrooke (Quebec), finished in first place in the Urban concept/Battery electric category at the 2014 Shell Eco-marathon Americas in Houston two weeks ago. Their performance of 325.1km/kWh largely surpassed that of the second-best team at 110.2km/kWh.
Inspired by ultra-light aircraft, the E-Volve car has a fuel consumption of just 30.8 millilitres per 100 kilometres. Sherbrooke students have spent more than two years perfecting it, and they were rewarded with the Perseverance and Spirit of the Event Award.
Meanwhile, in the Prototype/Gasoline category, Laval University (Quebec) and the University of Toronto (Ontario) secured the top two spots with their hypermiling stars averaging 1,200km/L and 1,153km/L, respectively.
