It is a sad day in motorsport. Dakar race organisers confirmed that two people have died in a three-vehicle incident close to the Peru-Chile border on Wednesday evening.
A taxi driver and his passenger died after a support vehicle hit them head-on, while a second taxi rolled several times as it swerved to avoid the chaos.
Seven other persons were injured and taken to hospital in Tacna, Peru.
"The Peruvian authorities have begun an inquiry into the accident in order to determine the exact causes,” says the press release.
