The Pro Modified Racing Association, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series continue to be dominated by multiple-time winners after the running of the Stratford Spectacular Hot August Nationals presented by Ideal Supply & NAPA Auto Parts held over the weekend at the Grand Bend Motorplex.
Rocky Di Lecce won his fifth PMRA race of the 2013 season, while the Top Sportsman team of Wilson and Gray captured the Quick 32 Sportsman Series final, and Dan Cryderman was victorious again in PBSS action.
Qualifying number two in the PMRA ladder, Di Lecce, of Mississauga Ontario drove his 1968 Camaro Pro Modified to another win over Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario in the final.
Semi-finalists for the event were Denis Lachance of Quebec City, Quebec, and Jeff Roth of New Hamburg, Ontario. Number one qualifier Jason Kalso of Clarkson, Michigan, who posted the meet's top qualifying numbers with a 6.217-second at 231.48-mph pass, was eliminated in the first round.
Di Lecce set low elapsed time and top speed of the event with a 6.034, 240.44 during round one eliminations.
Di Lecce leads the PMRA Championship Point Award Series followed by Jack Grainy of Basom, New York, Boland, Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, and Paolo Giust of Osgoode, Ontario.
The Ingersoll, Ontario-based Top Sportsman team of Bill Wilson and Rob Gray took another Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts win with their Cavalier after Wilson qualified fifth in the field led by Fred De Jonge of Puslinch, Ontario, who posted a 6.475 at 229.59.
Wilson eliminated Top Dragster driver Jim Rubino of Buffalo, New York in the event final with a 6.89 at 199.33.
Wilson took out number two qualifier Jeff Harrington of Swartz Creek, Michigan in the Top Sportsman final, while Rubino, who qualified 15th on the Top Dragster side, eliminated Bill White of Gadshill, Ontario.
New records were set in Top Dragster when Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario drove to a 5.934-second, 235.41-mph pass. Number one qualifier Wildgust was taken out in the first round.
Presently the top five in the Quick 32 Sportsman Series Championship Point Award Series are Kevin Wicke of Stratford Ontario, Wilson & Gray, Spencer Hyde, also of Stratford, Melanie Simmons Salemi of Orillia Ontario, and White.
Scott Wildgust won the Top Dragster Quick 8 on Saturday night defeating Tony Positano of Toronto, Ontario in the final and Fred De Jonge won the Top Sportsman Quick 8 over Spencer Hyde.
Qualifying number two on his Suzuki, Dan Cryderman of Thamesville, Ontario picked up another win in PBSS presented by Wiseco Performance Products racing, eliminating number one qualifier John Orfanidis of Toronto, Ontario in the final round.
Curtis Beck of Milton, Ontario was a semi-finalist in this PBSS event, and Orfanidis paced the field with a 7.611, 172.47 posting.
Dan Cryderman leads the PBSS Championship Point Award Series, followed by Ted Glinny of Milton, Ontario, Dave Vandereyken of Acton, Ontario, Marty Kuiack, also of Milton, and Orfanidis.
Next event for all three series is the annual "Thunder by the Beach" Weekend at Grand Bend August 30, 31, and September 1.
