FIA race director Charlie Whiting has brought up the idea of enforcing a points-based penalty system in the future, while bringing reporters up to speed on technical issues in a FIA Q&A.
Romain Grosjean made the headlines several times, most infamously at the Belgian GP, where he flew over the head of Fernando Alonso at the start of the race.
As a consequence, the Frenchman had to sit out the following round of the championship, in Monza.
Some say the hot-headed Grosjean never learnt from his mistakes on track, and that a better system should therefore be elaborated to stop drivers from ramming into each other.
According to Whiting, the idea of a points-based system is generally like, although "not unanimously (supported)".
The FIA will run a hypothetical system this season to gauge the idea.
