General Motors of Canada has issued a recall on 17,267 Pontiac Vibe hatchbacks from 2009-2010 after discovering that the electrical circuitry in the steering wheel assembly may become damaged. As a result, the driver's airbag may not function as intended, causing the instrument panel airbag warning lamp to illuminate.
Since failure of the driver's airbag to deploy during a crash increases the risk of injury, GM dealers will replace the spiral cable assembly.
