Dutch Red Bull Junior driver Beitske Visser took what will probably go down as the weirdest win of her career today, claiming victory at the Sachsenring in Germany in the ADAC Formula Masters series after just one lap of full racing.

Heavy rain had begun to fall as the race, the third of the weekend, got underway. Struggling in the conditions, yesterday's polesitter Florian Herzog slid down the order from first to fourth, promoting Lotus driver Visser into the lead in the process.

KSW Motorsport's Martin Gatz and JBR Motorsport & Engineering's Benedikt Gentgen were also having difficulties on lap one and promptly slid off the track and into the gravel trap, bringing out the safety car.

Five more laps of the race followed under safety car conditions before race control deemed that the rain was too heavy and red flagged the race, with 18-year-old Visser declared the winner.

"Only when I saw the red flags around the track did I realise that I had actually won the race,” said Visser.

“It seemed mighty strange, securing victory with only one proper lap. That's the first time for me, for sure!

“Race stewards were right not to continue the race,” she added. “I experienced aquaplaning even at very slow speeds behind the safety car."

Visser had some additional fortune; meanwhile, receiving full points for her race win because over 50% of the scheduled race laps had been completed.
