General Motors plans to launch a new Belt Assurance System to help ensure the driver and front passenger buckle up before hitting the road. It simply does not allow shifting from “park” until the left and right front seat belts are buckled.
GM has said that the Belt Assurance System will be available at no cost on select fleet vehicles later this year. No word yet on mainstream vehicles.
