This may surprise you, but the Volkswagen trademark was registered by Volkswagenwerk G.M.B.H. on December 6th, 1954 -- even though the company's first car was produced in 1938!

While World War II significantly affected its operations, Volkswagen went on to become a hit among small car buyers, so much so that the one millionth Beetle left the factory in 1954.
