On November 21st, 1945, members of the United Automotive Workers (UAW) at the GM assembly plant in Detroit went on strike -- the first following World War II.
It lasted 113 days and involved power sharing. GM agreed to pay higher wages, but refused to give workers a greater voice in management.
The union finally settled for an 18.5 cent increase and little more.
