Honda Motor Company Ltd. was incorporated on September 24th, 1948, two years after Soichiro Honda founded the Honda Technical Research Institute, which developed and built internal combustion engines and tools.
Initially a bike manufacturer, Honda started automobile production in 1963 with the S500 sports car and T360 small pickup. The following year, Honda entered Formula 1; its first Grand Prix victory occurred in Mexico in 1965.
Honda quickly grew in popularity across North America, selling its one millionth motorcycle on U.S. soil in 1968. Canadian Honda Motor Ltd. (now known as Honda Canada Inc.) was established in Toronto a year later.
Currently active in various industries (automobiles, motorcycles, water sports, racing, gardening, and aeronautics), Honda's largest markets are Asia and North America.
