Newly-formed component giant, Yanfeng Global Automotive Interior Systems (YFAI), says it aims to rapidly achieve US$10bn annual sales as the pace of worldwide supplier consolidation gathers momentum. YFAI is the joint venture between Yanfeng Automotive Trim Systems and Johnson Controls formed in July this year and has already showcased its ID16 concept car, outlining 30 interior innovations such as a retractable steering wheel, in anticipation of autonomous driving, to a catchbin for dropped coins.

Hankook Tire says there is no cannibalisation with its new Laufenn brand as it aims to target price-conscious consumers in Europe. The supplier unveiled its five-strong Laufenn range at this week's Frankfurt IAA 2015 but insists the addition of the products will grow the market and not take away from existing share.

Porsche confirms that the revised 911 Turbo will use a development of the engine in the current car
General Motors has agreed to pay US$900m and sign a deferred-prosecution agreement to end a US government investigation into its handling of an ignition-switch defect linked to 124 deaths, two sources have told the Reuters news agency. The deal means GM will be charged criminally with hiding the defect from regulators and in the process defrauding consumers, but the case will be put on hold while GM fulfills terms of the deal, one source said.
