The forty-third Tokyo motor show took place at the Tokyo Big Sight in Ariake, Koto-ku and saw 76 world debuts take place.  

This year's IAA took place in Frankfurt and saw 159 world premieres and 1,091 exhibitors from 35 countries, with major topics being electric mobility and connectivity.

Continental predicts sales this year will jump 5 percent, a fifth consecutive year of record sales, after revenue rose 2 percent in 2013.

Jaguar Land Rover, the UK-based premium luxury unit of Tata Motors, sold a record 425,006 vehicles in 2013, up 19% year on year, with strong growth in all major regions and new records set in 38 markets.

Volkswagen led China's vehicle market in 2013, with General Motors taking second place. Last year, the Volkswagen brand led the market with sales rising by 16% to a record 3.27m vehicles, overtaking GM which reported growth of around 11% to 3.16m units.

BMW Group said on Monday (13 January) it sold a record 1,963,798 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles worldwide in 2013, up 6.4% year on year. All three brands also reported record deliveries for the year. December sales rose 2.9% to 186,786 units.

There's an annual event which does not appear on any auto show calendar, yet which for large sections of the motor industry is more important than the orgies of new metal in Detroit, Geneva, Frankfurt, Paris or Tokyo.

BMW retained its global sales lead over rivals Audi and Mercedes for the ninth straight year in 2013 as it sold a record 1.66 million core-brand vehicles.
