The 2013 Maserati GranTurismo is really too big and heavy to be a racetrack star, but it excels at being sexy, sounds amazing, and is a comfortable grand tourer for four people while being quicker and faster than almost anything else on the street.

New For 2013

The S Automatic coupe has been replaced by the more powerful Sport coupe. The 4.7-liter V-8 gets a 10-hp boost, so it’s now available in 444- and 454-hp versions. The seats are newly designed with integral headrests. Sport models get a bolder front fascia. Front parking sensors are now standard on all but the MC. Brake calipers can now be painted matte blue (in addition to eight other options), and there’s a new light-blue exterior color called sofisticato.

A two-speed front transmission, or Power Transfer Unit, allows the 2013 Ferrari FF to send torque to the front wheels without heavy driveshafts or differentials, and a built-in torque-vectoring capability allows the FF’s computers to adjust the car’s cornering attitude.

The 2013 Bentley Continental Flying Spur sedan is a long-wheelbase version of the Continental GT coupe and convertible. Unlike those two-door models, which have recently been redone, the Flying Spur is based on the first-generation Continental.

There are no significant changes for 2013, since an all-new Flying Spur is coming soon. A new navigation and entertainment system came on stream last year, and Series 51, the “innovative and exclusive range of recommended combinations created by Bentley’s color and trim designers,” is available starting at $9070.

Is the ILX worth the price premium over a Honda Civic Si?

We ended last month's update with a quote from executive editor Todd Lassa, who believes our 2.4-liter Acura ILX "would be a much better $26,000 Civic Si sedan, even without some of the 'premium' touches." That statement prompted a lot of discussion, and all of us were asking, "Would it really?" So we snagged a 2013 Honda Civic Si sedan for comparison. The Si we tested was fully loaded. Its 17-inch aluminum wheels were wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tires, a $200 option from the factory, and it had navigation, something that isn't available on our ILX. The Civic's price? $23,705. That's $6390 less than our ILX. Things weren't looking good for the ILX, and we hadn't even seen the Civic Si yet -- all we had was the window sticker.

The 2013 Chrysler 200 sedan finally received the powertrain, chassis tuning, and styling it originally deserved. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder is still a bit sluggish, but the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 shines, delivering a healthy amount of pep.

New for 2013

The 200S used to be a stand-alone trim model on the 200 sedan, but its exterior styling cues – notably the dark grille, black headlamp bezels, projector fog lamps, and polished 18-inch wheels – are now available as part of an S Exterior Package on the mid-grade 200 Touring and high-grade 200 Limited. A new 200S Special Edition package adds a unique grille insert, matte black wheels, and interior trim designed by Carhartt.

The Vanquish is an all-new model for Aston Martin, replacing the DBS as the British brand’s top model, but you might recognize the styling, the V-12 engine, and the name. Aston Martin previously applied the Vanquish moniker to its most powerful and most expensive model from 2001 to 2007. The Vanquish comes as a coupe for now, but if history is any indication, a folding-roof Volante can’t be far off.
