SYLT, Germany – When Mercedes-Benz replaced its CLK-class with the E-class coupe and cabriolet for the 2010 model year, it was a source of debate between the automaker and the critics. The new coupe and cabriolet were based mostly on the E-class, Mercedes insisted, while automotive journalists noted the similarities between the new two-door and the C-class sedan.

Should you be worried when a car maker issues a recall notice?

Ford Motor Co., saddled with high costs, falling sales and financial losses, will close Australian car and engine assembly plants in October 2016 after almost nine decades of manufacturing in the country.

Striking workers at a Mercedez-Benz plant in South Africa walked out this week concerning a dispute surrounding paint shop practices, it has emerged.

Ford Australia has announced an after-tax operating loss of A$141m for the 2012 financial year. This followed a loss of $290m in 2011 and took losses in the last five years to about A$600m. Ford said it would close its Australian manufacturing plants and expand its vehicle lineup by 30% by 2016 to return to profitability.

Ford's decision to axe production in Australia has provoked fury at one of Australia's largest unions that estimates the cascade effect of shuttering plants will cost up to 6,000 jobs.

Nissan is recalling over 800,000 Cube/Micra models because of a faulty steering wheel.
