Volkswagen will be quick to add further models to the new Golf line-up unveiled in Berlin on Tuesday night (4 September).
Volkswagen might regard the Golf as its "most important model" and a "global phenomenon", according to CEO Dr Martin Winterkorn but, in global sales terms, it is now playing second fiddle to the Passat.
Volkswagen's new seventh-generation Golf is between 40kg and 100kg lighter than the Golf 6, despite being larger, and is up to 23% more fuel efficient. The average fuel saving across the range is 14%.
