BRAZIL: Nissan readies new Mercosur strategic plan

Nissan has completed its four-year programme called Shift-Mercosur begun in 2006 which included six new model launches. In that time it began importing the Murano crossover from Japan; the Tiida hatch and the new Sentra saloon from Mexico (thanks to a free trade deal with that country); and started local production of the new Frontier pick-up (dropping the XTerra and the old Frontier) and the Livina and Grand Livina minivans at alliance partner Renault's plant in the state of Paraná. To align its menu of trucks and people movers with rising interest in smaller, more fuel efficient transportation, GMC has broomed the hoary Envoy in favor of a fraternal twin to Chevy's Equinox called Terrain. This brings an efficient four-cylinder engine into the lineup, highway mileage topping the crucial 30mpg barrier, and a fresh load of tantalizing creature features.
