Lear Corp. said it will increase production and add 285 jobs this year at its northwest Indiana seat manufacturing plant. The company will spend more than $2.2 million at the plant, which will make seats for the new Ford Explorer SUV.

Ford Motor Co., losing a heated sales battle with Chevrolet's new Camaro, said today that its 2011 Mustang with an upgraded V-6 engine will be the first sports car with more than 300 hp with a highway fuel economy rating above 30 mpg.

Ford is still expected to sign an agreement to sell Volvo to China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group by the end of this month, according to the Briton in charge of the Swedish carmaker, Stephen Odell. Ford expects to finalise a deal by 31 March and complete the sale by 30 June.

The 2011 Ford Mustang today breaks new ground, cracking the record books as not only the most fuel-efficient Mustang ever, but also the first production car in history to produce more than 300 horsepower and more than 30 mpg highway. The Mustang's official EPA ratings - completed this week - certify that models equipped with the 305-hp 3.7-liter V-6 and available six-speed automatic transmission achieve 31 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city.
