2009 Suzuki Equator 4 Door - Suzuki Midsize Pickup Truck Review - Automobile Magazine
In a time when it's hard to find a pickup with an interior that hasn't been pimped into a state of hedonistic overload, the 2009 Suzuki Equator Sport exhibits a simple, honest character we find quite refreshing.

What does the world need now? At this moment, I sincerely doubt the answer lies with more pickup trucks, but here's Suzuki's offering - which is little more than a warmed-over Nissan Frontier.

Busting out of the thundering herd, the Volkswagen CC, Nissan Maxima, and Mazda 6 stand apart from the mid-size multitudes.

Many are the mid-size sedan offerings, and most are sold in large numbers. Naturally, whenever a product is produced in great quantities, its very popularity will cause a subset of its audience to seek an alternative. Something a bit sportier, or more luxurious, or more stylish. The Volkswagen CC, the Nissan Maxima, and the Mazda 6 all hail from mainstream automakers, yet all three address this desire for something more in a mid-size car.

2008 Nissan 350Z Roadster - 2008 LA Auto Show Coverage, New Car Reviews, Concept Cars - Automobile Magazine
Even as the 370Z makes its debut, the 350Z will live on for one more year, at least in convertible form.

With the wisdom gleaned over a full model cycle, or about five years in this case, I think it's safe to pronounce the returning Nissan Z car a winner. The original 240Z was a defining car for Nissan (then Datsun), and a beacon of sports car hope during the largely hopeless early 1970s. Unfortunately, it evolved - or, more accurately, devolved - into the tasteless and disco-y 280ZX and 300ZX. A magnificent redesigned 1991 300ZX restored Nissan's sports car to a position of glory, but spiraling sticker prices - especially for the most desirable, twin-turbo model - eventually snuffed out sales. After what seemed like an interminable wait, and an equally interminable parade of show cars, the 350Z finally arrived, to general acclaim.

This year the LA show is overshadowed by the state of the US car industry, with the CEOs of the big three US automaker going to congress to ask for a $25 billion dollar bail-out package on the first press day... As expected, there were less new production debuts and far less concept car unveils at the show, but there were still some world debuts for several important global designs: the Nissan 370Z, Nissan Cube, Mazda3 and Lexus RX. A new Mustang, radical Honda FC Sport concept and refreshed Porsche Boxster and Cayman designs are amongst the other Highlights of the show.

2009 Nissan 370Z - Nissan Sport Coupe Review - Automobile Magazine
With the world economy in a funk, at least we can find solace in nifty sports cars like the 370Z when our spirits need a lift.

The financial bear has taken a deep bite out of every sports car's hide. During October, entry-level roadster sales plummeted by more than fifty percent versus a year ago. Honda S2000 and Pontiac Solstice sales were down by two-thirds.
